The following Aircraft Material Specifications (AMS), covering aircraft and runway deicing products, have been recently updated.
While it is recommended that products meeting the SAE standards be used, national, state or local regulations may include different requirements. |
|
AMS1424P Type I Aircraft Deicing/Anti-Icing Fluid - Orange color is required.
- Colorless fluids do not meet this specification.
|
|
AMS1428K Type II, III, and IV Aircraft Deicing/Anti-Icing Fluid - Color is required. Type II fluids should be yellow, Type III fluids should be bright yellow and Type IV fluids should be green. Colorless fluids do not meet this specification.
- Periodic requalification requirements were clarified to include viscosity and ensure that the sample tested was not older than 6 months. The periodic test reports should be compared with the initial test reports to confirm product consistency.

|
AMS1431E Solid Runway Deicing/Anti-Icing Product - Liquefied (dissolved or “brined”) products should meet the requirements of AMS1435.
- Requalification time changed from every two (2) years to two (2) years after the initial qualification and four (4) years thereafter. For example, if a product is initially qualified in 2018, it would need to be requalified in 2020 and again in 2024.

AMS1435D Liquid Runway Deicing/Anti-Icing Product - Diluted products should meet the requirements of AMS1435.
- Requalification time changed from every two (2) years to two (2) years after the initial qualification and four (4) years thereafter. For example, if a product is initially qualified in 2018, it would need to be requalified in 2020 and again in 2024.
