Cryotech Products Do Not Contain PFASs
September 12, 2018 - There has been some recent misunderstanding in the industry that aircraft deicing fluids may also contain PFASs. Cryotech aircraft and airfield deicers have never contained PFASs and PFASs are not bi-products of the manufacturing process.
The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in the environment is a growing aviation industry concern. According to ACRP Research Report 173, PFASs have been used for extinguishing fires and for firefighter training at airports for decades. The use of aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) results in the release of PFASs into the environment. Some PFASs are known to be persistent in the natural environment and pose potential human and ecological health risks. Government agencies are developing regulation of these chemicals, and these regulations will likely impact airports.1
