Transportation Update - ELD Enforcement
May 1, 2018
The ELD Rule/Mandate is the U.S. federal government regulation specifying that operators of commercial motor vehicles covered by this law will be required to use electronic logging devices.
In its simplest form, an electronic logging device (ELD) is used to electronically record a driver's Record of Duty Status, which replaces the paper log book previously used to record compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements.
Although the ELD rule went into effect on December 18, 2017, full enforcement of the rule occurred on April 1, 2018. Violations can affect a carrier's safety rating and result in out-of-service citations.
